Girl Scout Riding Programs

Circle C Ranch's main focus is providing safe, educational, and fun programs for Girl Scouts. There are two ways Girl Scouts can participate in riding programs at Circle C Ranch.

Individual Riding Programs

Throughout the school year, Circle C hosts special workshops and programs for individual Girl Scouts or small troops (less than six girls) to participate. Typically, we offer horse rider badge workshops for Girl Scout Juniors and Trail Daze for Girl Scout Cadettes and older girls. Check the online calendar for dates of upcoming individual riding programs.

Troop Riding Programs

Most Saturdays and Sundays throughout the school year, the ranch is open for troop riding programs. We offer programs for all ages – Girl Scout Daisies to Girl Scout Ambassadors. Whether your troop just wants to have fun riding horses or they want to work on a horse badge or interest project, we have a program that works for your troop.

To schedule a Troop Riding Program, call 336-861-1198. Please include the age level of your troop, the number of girls expected to participate, the program you would like to do and at least two dates you would like to come.

Riding Lessons

Circle C Ranch offers riding lessons to anyone nine years and older. Even though Circle C Ranch is operated by the Girl Scouts, you do not need to be a girl or Girl Scout to participate in riding lessons.
We offer a semester's worth of riding lessons (usually 12-14 weeks) in the spring and the fall. The weekly lessons are one-hour and consist of grooming, saddling, instruction in the arena and an occasional trail ride. Our instructors are CHA certified and offer a high caliber of instruction and safety. We teach a balanced English seat and focus on building a strong foundation of horsemanship that leads to confidence on and off the horse.

Circle C Ranch offers private and semi-private (two students) lessons.

Fees

Private Lessons: $35/$40 Girl Scout/non-Girl Scout per lesson
Semi-Private: $20/$25 Girl Scout/non-Girl Scout per lesson/student

Summer Program

Volunteers

Circle C Ranch could not operate without the dedication and help of its volunteers! The ranch is always looking for more volunteers – both Girl Scouts and grown-up Girl Scouts! Currently our biggest need is for adult volunteers! Our most popular volunteer program is our Wrangler-in-Training (WIT) leadership development program for Girl Scouts 13 and older.

Wrangler-In-Training Program

The Wrangler-in-Training (WIT) leadership program is for Girl Scouts 13 and older who have a passion for horses and would like to develop their horsemanship skills and also learn how to safely and effectively teach other girls about horses. In return for all the work they do, WITs have the opportunity to ride, broaden their knowledge of horses and meet friends that share a passion for horses.

Being a WIT is hard work. WITs generally help with weekend riding programs. Some of their tasks include feeding, cleaning stalls, grooming horses, tacking, leading horses on trail rides, assist in teaching ground and mounted lessons. WITs commit to working 20 hours a month to participate in the WIT riding activities.

To become a WIT, you need to attend a WIT training session. After the training you will be able to come volunteer on the weekends and continue with "on-the job" training.
